ABOUT TOFANELLI'S

Tofanelli's is located in the heart of the Gold Country in downtown Grass Valley.

The marvelous building dates back to 1859 when it was first built as a law office.

In the 1890s, Gino Tofanelli operated the building as a grocery store and meat market.

The overhead hook trolley system that carried large pieces of meat from the curb to the huge walkin refrigerator are still a part of Tofanelli's. In fact, Tofanelli's still uses the same, huge walkin refrigerator that was originally built for the meat market in the 1890s.

In the early 1900s Freeman's Bakery was housed next door to the original Tofanelli's building. There was also a small residence on that location. The bakery and residence were destroyed by fire, but that area has become Tofanelli's beautiful patio, a favorite of our customers.

Tofanelli's became famous through the 1900s as a cafe and then a restaurant under several owners.

The current ownership took over in April, 2006 with a mission of restoring the beauty of this historic property as well as the popularity of the famous Tofanelli's restaurant.

Tofanelli's is now owned by a third-generation family of restaurateurs with a history of 15 successful restaurants, including the extremely popular Golden Egg Omelet House and the Grant Avenue Bar and Grill in the heart of Old Town Novato, CA.
